IL-114 Interior. The passenger compartment of the aircraft conforms to the requirements of modern design. IL-114 Interior, Passenger cabinThe panels of interior, luggage shelves, dividing walls of cabins and toilet block are made of light composite materials and high-quality plastic. The configuration of interior and arrangement of passenger seats, including dividing walls, may vary with customer choice. Buffet, lavatory and wardrobe modules are located in the passenger compartment. The number and the location of these modules depend upon the layout version of the compartment. Also, hatches for babies are available on the board. A folding stairway served by flight attendant is located at the forward entrance door. The location and the size of luggage and cargo compartments provides with two options for luggage to be stored. First, the passengers personally place their luggage in luggage compartment before takeoff. The second, the possibility to load the luggage mechanically through the forward and backward hatches located on the right side of the plane. Also, spacious luggage shelves are available for passengers hand luggage. Replace aging Il-14 and An-26 on regional lines new generation passenger/cargo aircraft was designed. It is capable to operate under any climate and geographical conditions. Among ~20 tasks that may be fulfilled by Il-114 are:
  • Passenger transportations;
  • Cargo delivery;
  • Ecological studies;
  • Mapping photography;
  • Ice reconnaissance;
  • Fish search;

Special modifications for transport (Il-114T) and border/marine guards are also offered for customers. Il-114 may be used on under-equipped (including unpaved) airfields. Stairs for passengers are included into standard board equipment. Auxiliary powerplant provides all necessities for ground service. Service access to all systems is simplified, use of ladders is minimal. To guarantee service in harshest conditions, variety of anti-corrosion measures were taken. Flight safety is enhanced by modern fire extinguishing and de-icing systems. Tricycle landing gear has increased base, what is helpful during high side wind takeoff, landing and taxi. Emergency gear extraction is possible, using gravity force and air flow. High operational efficiency is provided by specially designed new wing (aspect ratio 11) with high degree of mechanization (flaps, ailerons, interceptors, airbrakes, compensators and trimmers). Tail controls of conventional scheme, re-designed after 1993 crash (see below) to allow reliable handling even in case one of engines is cut on the takeoff. Il-114 carries GPS receiver and four-channel GLONASS receiver, both developed at VNIIRA. High efficiency engines are equipped with low-noise 6-blade propellers (3.6m diameter). The cabin is fitted with newly designed seats, convenient hand baggage compartments and overhead panels providing dimmed light which creates a warm, comfortable atmosphere for passengers. Pressurizing / air conditioning system has two identical branches, one of which serves as a backup. Cargo and passenger sections (separated by movable wall) may be easily adjusted for each flight needs. After some delays flight tests started in 1990 at LII). In 1993 the digital engine control system inadvertently commanded one propeller to feather just after take off on July 5th. The pilots couldn't compensate for the resultant yaw. Fatal crash followed, 3 of 8 crew-members killed. Production (at Tashkent APO named after V.P.Chkalov) started in 1997, after CIS certified Il-114 in April. Version (export?) with PW-127-F engines (2570hp, 1200rpm) is under development since July 1997, certification scheduled for 1999.
